Rebecca is the author of The Lafferty Girl: A Memoir of Trauma, Healing, and Love, forthcoming from Union Square in Fall 2025.
That which we do not resolve will continue to manifest in our life as chronic pain, disease, and behaviors we can't explain until we are ready to change the way we feel.
A daughter of a religious fanatic and two-time convicted murderer, Rebecca spent most of her life defined by abuse, trauma, and shame. Once she became an adult, the wounds she experienced as a girl manifested as physical and mental health problems, and she found herself repeating the same traumatic patterns she had experienced in childhood.
Determined to change her life, she embarked on a journey of rigorous self-examination and discovery. Through writing, therapy, and a reawakened connection with her inner spirit, she was able to rewrite her story and reclaim her own voice and identity, allowing her body (and soul) to finally heal.
It is her hope that readers who have also survived abuse and trauma will find a source of inspiration and support in her book and be reminded that, even in our darkest moments, love is always there.
